Why certification is important, and what it all means – at a glance
As part of President Obama’s economic stimulus package, officially known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), approximately $20 billion was allocated to entice hospitals and physicians to adopt healthcare information technologies such as Electronic Health Records (EHR) and e-Prescribing solutions. At least $17.2 billion of these funds will be available as incentives through the Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement systems to assist providers in adopting EHRs. The reimbursement process requires healthcare providers to demonstrate that their EHR systems are being put to “Meaningful Use,” and mandates that a number of objectives be met in order to qualify for funding. Healthcare providers must meet these objectives as they become more rigorous with each new set of standards, divided into what are called “stages.” This program, collectively, is referred to as the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.
Achieving Stage 1 Meaningful Use
We believe that the criteria set forth by the ARRA HITECH Act (2009) will hold all healthcare IT providers to a higher standard. Our highly-trained team of experts can guide you step-by-step through the ARRA HITECH reimbursement process, working with you to ensure that your organization successfully meets the Stage 1 Meaningful Use criteria. The MetaCare Enterprise EHR full suite of solutions has been certified as a Complete EHR ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 by Infoguard, allowing Meta’s clients to receive their Stage 1 incentive dollars. Having completed the rigorous certification process implemented by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (the objectives of which can be seen here), Meta guarantees our clients the most intelligent and cutting-edge technology available in today’s market.
Achieving Stage 2 Meaningful Use
Though we have always strived to make our software efficient, safe, and reliable, Stage 2 certification will reassure our clients with federally standardized elements required of all EHRs to enhance quality. The full MetaCare Enterprise EHR™ suite of products has received modular EHR ONC-ACB 2014 Stage 2 certification, enabling our clients to apply for Medicare and Medicaid incentives. 17 core objectives and 6 menu set objectives make up ARRA’s set requirements for eligible hospitals and CAH’s. These objectives can be found here.
The objectives set by ARRA HITECH have helped standardize components of EHR systems. However, at Meta
Healthcare IT Solutions, we aim to go above and beyond regulatory requirements to ensure that our clients possess the most effective tools to complete their work as healthcare professionals. Our highly skilled, creative, and motivated team understands the challenges present in modern healthcare, and has foreseen the difficulties of transitioning from traditional methods to an automated EHR system.
Achieving Stage 3 Meaningful Use
Stage 3 is the most recent phase of EHR adoption, which focuses of improving patient outcomes, electronic reporting, and interoperability among EHR systems. The changes are also meant to increase the flexibility and simplicity of the Meaningful Use program, which allows facilities to more easily apply for reimbursement. The official ruling on Stage 3 requirements is still forthcoming.
